Sonoma County Beekeepers' Association holds general meetings on the second Monday of every month. Meetings start at 7 PM and run until about 9 PM, sometimes later. Meetings are open to everyone interested in beekeeping - you need not be a member to attend.
We meet in the main meeting room of the Sonoma County 4-H Centre, which is located at 6445 Commerce Boulevard in Rohnert Park. This is behind the Grocery Outlet near Rohnert Park Expressway (the 101 overpass in Rohnert Park) and Commerce Boulevard.
To get to the Sonoma County 4-H facility, follow these directions:
From North of Rohnert Park: take 101 South to the Rohnert Park Expressway (the only 101 overpass in Rohnert Park), take the exit, turn LEFT to cross the overpass to the East side of town. Bear to the RIGHT lane as you cross the overpass. Continue with local directions below.
From South of Rohnert Park: take 101 North to the Rohnert Park Expressway, take the exit, turn RIGHT. Continue with local directions below.
From areas East or West: get to 101, then follow above directions according to where on 101 you are. 116 comes in South of Rohnert Park, 12 is North.
Local: From Rohnert Park Expressway, turn RIGHT at the signal on Commerce (which is the first cross street on the east side, and runs roughly parallel to the freeway the entire length of Rohnert Park), continue to the next traffic signal, which is Hunter. Turn RIGHT into the shopping centre parking lot there. You'll pass a Subway and pizza shop on your left, and once past that structure, turn LEFT and keep to the side of the Rite-Aid building on your right - the 4-H building is directly in front of you, and you'll turn RIGHT to access their parking lot, which is directly between the back of the Rite-Aid and the freeway.
There is ample parking, paved and lighted. If you don't have any large or heavy items, please leave the closest parking to the structure for those who may.
The official address is 6445 Commerce Boulevard, though the building is nowhere near and only just barely visible from the street.
The Sonoma County 4H group has a map on their website showing the broad strokes.
Meetings are a great opportunity to exchange ideas with other beekeepers, get answers to questions and insights to problems. There is usually a door prize and often a few bee-friendly plants available. Mid-meeting we have a break with refreshments.
In November, we have a potluck dinner, with awards. It is at this meeting that we nominate the board that will serve for the following year. Throughout the year, we have interesting speakers, how-to presentations, and many opportunities to network.
